Community Resource Center Updates – August 21, 2023

In this week’s Community Corner newsletter:

  • The Community Resource Center will be closed on Thursdays for the near future. We will continue to be open on Mondays and Wednesdays!
  • In need of a cooling center? Find overnight shelter information in Seattle and King County for severe weather events. Learn more.
  • Sound Transit is hosting a Light Rail Career Fair on Saturday, September 9th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants can connect with representatives from King County Metro rail division who maintain and operate Link Light Rail and Seattle Streetcar to network and learn more about job openings with Link. Learn more.
  • Are you familiar with your rights and responsibilities as a tenant? Do you have a problematic rental history or are not sure why you’re being denied housing? Are you looking to become a landlord and want more information on getting started? Attend a free renter’s certification and fair housing training. All participants receive a certificate upon completion that boosts their rental resume. Successful completion of class also entitles Snohomish County residents and rental providers to one free Landlord-Tenant Mediation. Learn more and register:

  • Back-to-School Fairs and Resources:
    • Back-to-School Bash: Time to start the school year off with food and fun! Come to the teen center for the Middle School Night Back-to-School bash at the Richmond Highlands Rec Center on September 16th at 6 p.m.
    • Back-to-School Bash: Free backpacks, haircuts, games, and giveaways available on Saturday, August 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at 1928 S Commons, Federal Way, WA 98003. 
    • Back-to-School Supply Drive: Come through to pick up supplies and enjoy free music, food, giveaways, and community on Saturday, September 2nd from 12-3 p.m. at 2156 MLK Jr Way, Tacoma, WA 98405.
    • BOSS Back-to-School Event: Backpacks with grade-specific school supplies will be ready for students! Supplies are limited, so pre-registering for this event here is recommended. Event takes place on August 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Crossway Church in Auburn.
    • Seattle Public Library online resources: SPL has collected links to remote learning resources for pre-K through high school students.
