Community Resource Center Updates – September 11, 2023

In this week’s Community Corner newsletter:

  • The WA Family Engagement Leadership training is a free, 12-week, two-generation remote class teaching adults and children leadership, civics, literacy, and public speaking skills. The Parent and Children’s Leadership Training Institute offers adults free college credit for completing this course and provides free grade-level books for children who participate (ages 6-12). Classes available both in English and in Spanish. Learn more.
  • Career Online High School (COHS) allows adults to earn a nationally accredited high school diploma and career certificate. Eligible learners must reside in the KCLS Service Area (not Seattle); be 20 years of age or older; have around 6th grade-level English proficiency; and have or get a KCLS Library card.
    Learners must also be able to commit to 8-10 hours per week for coursework. On average, learners graduate within 12-14 months, but it may take up to 18 months depending on transfer credits and work pace. Learn more.
  • Join the Quarterly Community Connect Summit on September 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Burien Library. This summit is for anyone in King County who provides or is looking for resources for underserved communities, especially those experiencing homelessness, substance use disorder, and mental health challenges.   • Reminder: Recovery Cafe is hosting the Resource Connection and Recovery Celebration on September 15 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Recovery Cafe Sodo. Learn more here.
