Community Resource Center Updates – June 19, 2023

In this week’s Community Corner newsletter:

  • King County Library is celebrating Juneteenth this Wednesday, June 21, at 1 PM at a virtual event that is free to the public. Join Merri Ann Osborne, The Mahogany Project, and SilverKite Community Arts as multi-genre guests will share Juneteenth’s history through storytelling, music, movement, and reflection.   • Renton is celebrating Juneteenth on Sunday, June 25, at Liberty Park from noon to 5 p.m. Highlights include 40+ food vendors, food trucks, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, career fair, bouncy houses, a community art project, face painting, and more. Learn more about the event here.
  • Team Up Washington is hosting a train-the-trainer event for coaches, mentors, and advocates that will provide an overview of the evidence-based violence prevention program, “Coaching Boys Into Men,” and will explore how it can be used to educate student athletes about healthy relationships and consent. Participation will provide leaders with tools to empower student athletes to prevent sexual assault, dating violence, and hazing. Learn more here.
  • WorkSource is hosting a free, online session on Tuesday, June 27, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for individuals interested in Rapid Reemployment Information. Register for this free, virtual event to learn how to access the resources available to retrain, re-certify, retire or get re-employed after a lay off. Covered resources and options include unemployment insurance, job searches, education resources and assistance, worker retraining programs, healthcare options, and more.
  • Ideal Option is hiring a Peer Outreach Specialist to join their growing team and give back lives, reunite families, and heal communities that are suffering from the devasting effects of substance use disorder. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday and pays $22.00-$25.00 per hour. Learn more.
